Passenger information

Since the passenger information services provided at stations form a part of the railway infrastructure, they are also the responsibility of the Finnish Transport Agency.

Railway operators are responsible for providing information on the availability of travel connections, in addition to information provided on board trains.

Passenger information services are developed in order to ensure that customers travelling by train have a pleasant journey, even if some things do not go according to plan.

The Finnish Transport Agency is responsible for electrically operated information systems at stations and platforms, including screens for displaying schedules and equipment used to make announcements.

Information is a prerequisite for a successful journey

Provision of information on electronic information systems is mainly automated. In special circumstances, rapid action by specialists is required. During such situations, traffic control staff handle information services in addition to their usual duties.

Passenger information is also provided using fixed signs at stations. This type of permanent information system includes features such as frames used by VR Group to display paper versions of train schedules, car number charts and so on. The Finnish Transport Agency is responsible for any other content.
