E18 Koskenkylä–Kotka

Main road 7 is part of the international European road 18 and the Nordic Triangle traffic system, regarded as important by the European Union. The construction of national motorway 7 between Koskenkylä, Loviisa and Kotka represents one of the four still required international E18 road development projects between Turku and Vaalimaa. Finland has agreed to construct E18 as a motorway by 2015.

The E18 Koskenkylä–Kotka project comprises the supplement to the current road for high-speed traffic with a motorway from Koskenkylä to Loviisa (17 km) and the construction of a motorway from Loviisa to Kotka (36 km). Six new interchanges are being built for the motorway: Loviisa East, Ruotsinpyhtää, Ahvenkoski, Pyhtää, Siltakylä and Heinlahti. Moreover, Loviisa West and Sutela's interchange will be improved.

Building began in November, 2011. The motorway will already be partly opened for traffic in 2013, and totally in 2014. Maintenance of the road and the contract period included within the financing will extend to the year 2026.
