Turku Radio

The Finnish Transport Agency is responsible for safety radiocommunications in Finnish territorial waters. The objective of the coast station Turku Radio is to maintain distress and safety radiocommunications, including transmission of navigational warnings, weather forecasts, ice reports and ship reports.

Turku Radio transmits pilot requests through PortNet, maintains a database on hazardous cargoes to prevent environmental damage and supplies data for IBPLOTT, the joint Finnish-Swedish icebreaker information network.

The station also transmits reports on fishing quotas from vessels fishing in the Finnish and Baltic fishing zones, as required by EC legislation, and receives data on disturbances in the DGPS system, which it passes on to ships.
